What is the Social Hour? The Social Hour series was invented by Jenna Dodson, former staff scientist for West Virginia Rivers Coalition. The goal was an opportunity for watershed folk to relax with one another while sharing what is going on out in West Virginia’s watersheds. The series is continuing in 2025 with some changes: - Social Hours will be on the FIRST TUESDAY of each month at 6 PM.
- An email with the link for the Social Hour will go out approximately one week before the Social Hour.
The plan for the Social Hours is to get watershed associations to get to know each other. Here’s how: - One or two watershed associations will step up to talk at each Social Hour
- The watershed associations will have 15 minutes to tell their stories.
- If they want, they can bring up a particular topic about their work.
- There will then be time for Q&A and discussion.
In the spirit of keeping things relaxed, we are not asking for fancy PowerPoint presentations. Here is a list of questions you can answer to fill up your 15 minutes. WVWN members will be happy to talk with you to help prepare. - How and when did your organization start?
- Where is your watershed? To what larger rivers does it contribute?
- What brought in your most recent volunteer?
- Who is one of the stars of your group?
- What are your goals for this year?
- What fish do you find in your streams?
- Do you work with kids?
- What are your outreach activities?
- What is your governance structure?
- What does membership look like for your organization?
Is there a topic you would like to focus on? The floor will be yours. Brag about a success! Share a puzzle you are facing! You are bound to get some thoughtful answers. Sign up now for a future slot to introduce yourselves to all the other watershed associations. We look forward to seeing all of you! |
