West Virginia’s House of Delegates is considering updates to its rules, and we expect them to be approved before the start of the session on February 11. While some changes -- like ensuring each bill gets three full days of review in committee -- help improve the process, other changes could limit public participation in decisions that affect all of us.

Right now, anyone can request a public hearing on any bill. The proposed rules remove that right and don’t guarantee clear notice or an opportunity for the public to speak before decisions are made.
