The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a rule to transfer oversight of Class VI injection wells to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) under the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program. These wells would be used to inject carbon dioxide underground, a practice with significant implications for our state's environmental and public health.
This proposed rule is complex and impactful, and we need your voice in the decision-making process. The comment period is currently set to close soon, but we believe there’s not enough time to thoroughly review the rule—especially given the overlap with the holiday season. That’s why we are asking for a 60-day extension of the comment period.
