At the heart of our mission lies citizen monitoring, especially in water quality and air monitoring initiatives across West Virginia. Together with dedicated organizations like WV Citizen Action Group and others, we've been steadfast in supporting citizen-led efforts to monitor air quality in Chemical Valley and beyond. Our collaboration has resulted in the installation of Purple Air Monitors, empowering citizens to detect air quality issues and prompt investigations by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
However, our progress faces a critical threat in the form of HB 5018. This bill seeks to restrict the use of citizen air monitoring data, eroding the very foundation of community-driven environmental protection. If passed, HB 5018 would hinder DEP's ability to effectively address air quality concerns and diminish citizens' vital role in advocating for cleaner air in their communities.
We urge you to stand with us in opposition to HB 5018. Contact our leaders in the West Virginia House of Delegates Committee on Energy and Manufacturing today and demand the rejection of this detrimental bill.
Now is the time to act. Let's protect the integrity of citizen monitoring and uphold our commitment to a cleaner, healthier West Virginia. Thank you for your advocacy and steadfast support for clean water and healthy environments.
