Together with dedicated organizations like WV Citizen Action Group and others, we've been steadfast in supporting citizen-led efforts to monitor air quality in Chemical Valley and beyond. Our collaboration has resulted in the installation of Purple Air Monitors, empowering citizens to detect air quality issues and prompt investigations by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

 

The Threat of HB 5018:

However, our progress faces a critical threat in the form of HB 5018. This bill seeks to restrict the use of citizen air monitoring data, eroding the very foundation of community-driven environmental protection. If passed, HB 5018 would hinder DEP's ability to effectively address air quality concerns and diminish citizens' vital role in advocating for cleaner air in their communities.
