The WV Senate has passed the Committee Substitute for SB 688. Now, the House Committee on Government Organization reviews this bill next.
The bill, as currently written, potentially opens all WV public lands to widespread timbering and economic development for special interest projects. The protections against timbering for State Parks, Kanawha State Forest, and our Rail Trails could end. The purpose of Wildlife Management Areas could change from habitat preservation and hunting to timbering. This bill permits secret, noncompetitive bid contracts from out-of-state interests to threaten the beauty and value of our public lands. West Virginians know best how to protect our public lands. It is not too late to protect your Wild and Wonderful public lands.
We need your help NOW. Please tell the members of the House Committee on Government Organization to Reject SB 688. Tell the Committee to please protect our public lands.
Let the House Committee on Government Organization know you love our WV Public Lands - the way they are!
