Toxic "flood mud" covers floor of a West Virginia home in Mingo County, WV during the February 2025 flash flood.
Flash floods in northern West Virginia this weekend took lives and damaged homes, roads, bridges, and utilities. First responders rescued dozens of people. Families are grieving, rebuilding, and helping one another — just as West Virginians always do.
As we offer care and support to those directly impacted, we also know this: West Virginia needs more resources to help communities prepare and recover from catastrophic flooding.
Communities impacted by the February flood in Southern WV are still recovering, while communities in North Central WV have just begun the recovery process. We urgently need action at the state and federal levels to support their recovery and better prepare communities for the next disaster.
That's why we're asking you to send two messages to leaders today:
These steps are how we care for one another — not just today, but for the long road ahead.
