Our public lands are not for sale.
A new proposal in the U.S. Senate would force the sale of up to 3 million acres of public lands under the guise of addressing the housing crisis. This dangerous and deceptive bill builds on an earlier effort we helped stop in the House — but now, it’s back and worse than before.
This is a direct threat to the future of public lands in West Virginia and beyond.
The bill ignores the bipartisan Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act, which ensures that proceeds from land sales are used to expand and improve public lands — not fill budget gaps or benefit private developers. It even rolls back hard-won reforms that limited speculative oil and gas leasing and protected vital wildlife migration corridors.
Here in West Virginia, our public lands power an outdoor recreation economy that supports 6,400+ jobs and returns up to $11 for every $1 spent. They’re where we go to fish, hunt, hike, and reconnect — not to fuel reckless development.
Tell Senate leaders to vote NO on public land sell-offs and leasing rollbacks.
Public lands belong to the people, not to the highest bidder.
