Let Senator Manchin know that West Virginians want him to bring home a strong budget bill that invests in our state.

The Build Back Better plan would send as much as $18 billion of badly-needed investments into West Virginia in the next decade – fixing our roads, removing lead pipes and getting us ready to compete in the next century.

The clean energy provisions in the Build Back Better plan are essential to West Virginia as our nation and world move towards clean energy. Investments like the Clean Electricity Performance Program would provide West Virginians with good jobs, lower electricity costs and better health.

WVU analysis found that the clean energy provisions would cut West Virginia’s power costs by $855 million by 2040. Without this program, West Virginians will be stuck footing the bill for unprofitable coal plants, driving our electricity bills unnecessarily high. This will also clear our skies and protect our drinking water.

I'm a West Virginian urging you to lead on climate action, clean water infrastructure, and help for our communities as the nation transitions from fossil fuel. I am asking you to please support key programs in the Build Back Better plan like a strong Clean Electricity Performance Program which will provide West Virginians with good jobs, lower electricity costs and better health. West Virginia is already hurting and we can't afford to lose out on the investments the Build Back Better plan would make in West Virginia. The Clean Electricity Performance Program alone would provide $11-18 billion to West Virginia between now and 2030, providing essential funding to help West Virginia transition from coal to clean energy. This investment would provide new tax revenue for local economic development that bolsters our schools, property values, local services, and provides good, union jobs. An analysis performed by the Center for Energy & Sustainable Development at WVU shows that achieving a faster clean-energy transition in West Virginia would cut power costs $855 million by 2040. Without this program, West Virginians will be stuck with the bill for unprofitable coal plants as they close, keeping our energy costs unnecessarily high. Please ensure there are robust investments in natural infrastructure, oil and gas reforms, clean energy, and public land improvements through the budget reconciliation process.
