Ten years ago, Freedom Industries threatened the health of 300,000 West Virginians when a chemical used to clean impurities from coal leaked from a tank into the Elk River, upstream from the West Virginia American Water municipal water intake and distribution center. This devastating occurrence had far-reaching consequences that called for accountability from polluters and emphasized the need for a water-secure future. Ten years later, our work is far from over.
Please join West Virginia Rivers Coalition and partners in reflecting on the 10th Anniversary of the 2014 Water Crisis and shaping a water-secure future on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 5-9 PM at the Culture Center in Charleston, WV.
This is a free, ticketed, family-friendly event to remember the anniversary of the 2014 West Virginia Water Crisis and envision a water-secure future. The event will feature interactive art, music, storytelling, food, drinks, and community.
